See the Chart below for profiles and thicknesses available ex SLE stores. Non stock profiles are available to order in pack quantities as are varying lengths. Talk to our Sales staff.

NOTE. Double Six metric, 12 x 3" corr and 14 x 3" corr are available, but would need to be ordered and thus there would be a delay. It  is not known if minimum orders apply.

TECHNICAL INFO. Extruded PVC Profiles are manufactured to high standards of appearance, accuracy and performance from selected and proven high quality materials. They are resilient, resistant to attack from most chemicals and fungus growth and exhibit excellent weathering characteristics, in particular resistance to U.V. degradation.

Extruded UPVC Profiles are guaranteed against discolouration and loss of light transmission for 10 years from date of purchase, provided the material has been stored, installed and cleaned in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

Extruded UPVC Profiles possesse high optical clarity and light transmission properties, and is a suitable rooflight material for use in buildings of all types. The high gloss surface finish retains little dirt giving enduring light transmission with a minimum of maintenance.   They are resistant to most chemicals and to fungus growth, but avoid contact with wet wood preservatives. The high gloss surface finish minimises dirt retention and requires little maintenance.

Excellent fire performance characteristics are also exhibited - Extruded UPVC Profiles are self extinguishing and have a Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame and are tested in accordance with BS476: Part 7: 1971.  As U-pvc softens at 72 - 74 deg. C it is classified by Building Regulations as a low softening point material. Should their be a fire where U-pvc rooflights are installed in the roof these will soften and open allowing heat, smoke and gases to escape. The use of U-pvc rooflights will permit some relaxation of fire protection requirements for some of the elements of portal framed buildings.

Storage.U-pvc sheets should be stored on pallets or wooden bearers with flat surfaces at least 100mm wide placed at centres not exceeding 900mm. Where U-pvc is stored outdoors, cover sheets securely with an opaque waterproof cover to protect from sun, wind and water and ventilate the stack to avoid heat build-up. Never stack sheets more than 1.2m high.  Additional note by SLE Cladding Ltd.. NEVER EVER leave a stack of clear sheets uncovered in strong sunlight. The layers of sheets will magnify the sunlight, distorting and melting the sheets in the low layers of the pack

Cutting.  U-pvc should be cut with a fine toothed saw used with light pressure at a shallow angle. Care should be taken when cutting the sheets in low temperatures supporting the sheet close to the cut. SLE Cladding Note. Extreme care is required when using a handsaw to avoid shattering the sheet. Try using a fibre cutting disc (metal or stone) on a piece of PVC destined to be waste.

Drilling. Holes should be drilled through the crown of the corrugation and should be 3 mm larger than the fixing screws to allow for thermal expansion. Drill the holes at least 50mm from the edge of the sheet. Do not hammer fixing nails directly through U-pvc sheets and avoid over tightening screws.

FIXING SHEETS

Purlin Spacings. The maximum recommended purlin spacings are as follows: Lightweight Sheets - 600mm, Heavyweight Sheets - 900mm, Superweight Sheets - 1100mm.

Roofslope. U-pvc should not be used on roofs with a pitch of less than 4 deg. (70mm rise per metre) A pitch of 10 deg. or more will ensure cleaning of the sheet by the action of rainwater.

Foam Fillers. Position foam Fillers on all purlins to provide adequate support and on the edge purlin to prevent the ingress of dust, leaves, insects or water.

Laps. Sheet side laps are as illustrated in the profile diagrams. Fix sheets so that wide laps are always away from the prevailing wind and seam bolted at 300mm - 380mm centres in exposed locations or on low pitched roofs. Sheet end laps should be no less than 150mm. The end of laps should be sealed with a clear silicone glazing sealant or a compressible foam sealing strip in exposed locations and low pitched roofs.

Where the structure abuts an external wall, use abutment flashing, counter-flashed with aluminium foil flashing tape or lead to give a weather tight seal.

Fixing Nails & Screws.  For the miniature 1.1/4" profile, (bottom left) nails and washers are available in packs of 10 no. Packs of 10 no. screws, washers and caps are available to suit the other profiles.

Wall Abutment Flashings. As per the illustration , (below right) are available for the various profiles in clear pvc.
