PAINTING PROFILED SHEETS
The colour on all Coated Profiled Metal Roofing sheets and
materials will fade in time, with the lighter colours fading
quicker than the darker colours. Sheets can be repainted by brush or
sprayer. A good quality gloss paint is recommended.
By referring to our Corus (British Steel) Colour Charts, you
should be able to identify the colour required and its BS or RAL
number CLICK HERE
.
It may be necessary to remove a few fixings on the building to expose the
original colour under a sheets side or end lap. Looking under a
barge board is another good place.
Please do read the introductory
notes to the Colour Charts so that you appreciate the
problems that the industry has relating to matching colours and
shades. SLE Cladding Ltd has arrangements with a paint
company to produce paint to any BS or RAL number.
From the Colour Charts
introduction it will be seen that a colour guarantee cannot be
given to exactly match that of the existing building.
If an exact colour match is
important or essential we suggest taking a sample from the paint
container and adding a little white paint to lighten or black to
darken to the sample. Trial brush the adapted colour over or near
to the colour it has to match, and repeat until an acceptable
colour is achieved. Don't risk blending a full tin in the first
instance as you may find that any blend is worse that the original
colour.
New coated materials such as
Plastisol, Polyester & Galvanised Steel will readily take paint
and it will dry and appear very satisfactory. The problem is that
in very hot weather the paint may peel off the sheet. It is best
if painting can be left for 12 months for the surface to age a
little. This is also particularly true of galvanised steel.
Painting New Galvanised Steel.
If painting has to be done
immediately (Planners on your back) in the case of galvanised
steel a Mordant etching solution can be applied to take the shine off the
surface. Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions. The sheets
surface will need to be well
washed immediately after application and allowed to dry before the paint
is applied.
