POLYPROPYLENE
BOARDS
Polypropylene is the low cost material suitable for most hygienic
applications except in circumstances as specified in RED below.
Available in white or blue extruded
polypropylene sheets are widely used for walls in food preparation
and processing areas. Ideal for laboratories, hospitals, Food
processing areas, canneries, farm dairies & milking parlours, abattoirs etc.
Polypropylene is a semi-rigid,
opaque flat building material made of polypropylene copolymer.
Polypropylene panels are designed for use on interior walls
where a hygienic, easy to clean surface is required.
Easy
to install, polypropylene is water resistant - withstanding
repeated steam hose washing, chemical resistant and is resilient
with high impact resistance. Tough and lightweight it is an ideal
material for cladding and fabrication of storage tanks - can be
welded but not successful with adhesives bonding. Temperature
range -15°c to 80°c. Class 4 surface spread of flame fire rating.
(per BS476 Part 7)
Polypropylene
is ideal for food preparation areas.

SLE NOTE.
Polypropylene boards in most circumstances are the low cost answer
and thus are the most often specified of all the hygienic wall cladding
materials, but it does have its limitations as stated below.
Polypropylene expands with temperature
increases and thus
is not suitable
for rooms with big temperature
fluctuations, also being only class 4 for spread of flame, it is not
suitable for use
near heat sources e.g. Stoves & Cookers etc, or in high fire
risk areas.
In these circumstances
and where a higher quality material and finish is required,
look to use Filon Multiclad a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) found
on the previous menu page. Unfortunately GRP materials cost more than Polypropylene.
NOTE. All types of sheets
(particularly polypropylene)
should be stored in the room for
24 hours so that the sheets reach the ambient temperature of that
room before erection.
