Polypropylene is the low cost material suitable for most hygienic applications except in circumstances as specified in RED below. Available in white or blue extruded polypropylene sheets are widely used for walls in food preparation and processing areas. Ideal for laboratories, hospitals, Food processing areas, canneries, farm dairies & milking parlours, abattoirs etc.

Easy to install, polypropylene is water resistant - withstanding repeated steam hose washing, chemical resistant and is resilient with high impact resistance. Tough and lightweight it is an ideal material for cladding and fabrication of storage tanks - can be welded but not successful with adhesives bonding. Temperature range -15°/+90°. Class 4 surface spread of flame fire rating.

Polypropylene is ideal for food preparation areas.

SLE WARNING

Polypropylene boards are the low cost answer in most circumstances.

Please note that the material expands  with  temperature increases and thus is not suitable for rooms with big temperature fluctuations, or being only class 4 for spread of flame, for use near heat sources e.g. Stoves & Cookers etc, or in high fire risk areas. In these circumstances look to use either Glasbord, Solid White PVC Boards or Flite CE Boards which unfortunately are much more expensive.

Before erection all types of sheets should be stored in the room for 24 hours so that the sheets reach the ambient temperature of that room.

Samples and fixing instructions are available on request, but before ordering we strongly advise that both Environmental Health and Building Regulations Departments as well as your local Fire Officer are contacted as the interpretation of tough EEC Food Industry Regulations vary between Local Authorities.

Alternative Materials (See separate pages listed in Hygienic menu)

SOLID WHITE PVC
Pressed solid PVC sheet that proves to be an excellent internal cladding material in arduous conditions. Easy to clean and ideal for hygienically sensitive situations i.e. hospitals, laboratories, food preparation areas. Good impact and weather resistance - but reduced at low temperatures. Class 1 fire rating (BS476). Can also be used for display panels, door cladding, thermoformed to fit complex shapes.

ELITE CE

Elite CE Fast Fix panels combine a homogeneous foam core with an integral skin of rapid PVC to offer a quick and simple wall covering for hygienic environments. Elite Fast-Fix panels are half the weight of solid pvc. yet rigid enough to be fixed with an absolute minimum of adhesive and substrate preparation.

GLASBORD

A durable, semi-rigid glass reinforced plastic panelling material offering high dimensional stability, toughness with excellent resistance to moisture and chemical attack. High strength to weight ratio enabling it to replace metal, ceramic and thermoplastic panelling. Meets hygiene requirements of food processing industry.

The embossed surface aids cleaning, helps prevent adhesion of debris with NSFT laboratory tests showing that Glasbord's surface is as easily cleanable as No.3 finish on stainless steel. Glasbord Fire-X is Class 0, BS476 Pt.6 1981.
