The Cranked Crown Ridge Sheet and the Cranked Crown Vent Sheet in the 1800mm wide girth as illustrated above have been found to be very fragile on account of the extra wide unsupported girth width and thus present a safety hazard to roofers and erectors when fixing on roofs insomuch as they are liable to break under pressure and may not support a persons bodyweight.

These 1800 girth sheets have been classed as non standard for a long while and are now only manufactured to order for repair purposes only. Orders can take up to 12 weeks to produce.

Roofers are warned not to stand or even lean on them when handling or fixing on a roof and as they are only available for repairs to take appropriate safety measures to protect themselves, as the whole of the roof is likely to be very fragile with age.

Marley Eternit the manufacturers have issued the following statement:-

1800mm crank crown sheets and vents form a fragile roof detail and should be designed out where feasible. The 1800 cranks we supply should not be used on an otherwise non-fragile roof, but only used for small patch repairs of an existing roof, where the sheets will also be fragile. When replacing the crank, the complete roof should be treated as being fragile, with appropriate Health & Safety measures being taken when accessing the roof.

For new roofs, complete re-roofing and extensions we recommend that 750 or 900mm girth cranks should be used.
