CURVED CORRUGATED SHEETS

Available in Galvanised Steel, Plastisol & Polyester Coated Steel Sheets
Supplied manufactured to required radius and lengths

A typical curved sheet in Plastisol

This grain silo was constructed using curved galvanised 3" corrugated steel sheets in various gauges.

2 large packs of curved galv. sheets in 10 x 3" corr x 0.9mm thick

A pack of curved corrugated Plastisol Roofing Sheets in 13.5 x 3" corr. x 0.7mm thick

For curved roofs such as Dutch Barns, Nissan Huts, Romney Huts and Belfast Hanger Roofs as well as in the restoration of Victorian Industrial Architecture.  Used also for roofs of Shepherd's Huts, Circular Grain Bins, Silos, Pig Arks and Circular Water Tanks.

The demand for curved sheets has in the past been mainly for galvanised steel sheets, but with the upturn of interest in Industrial Heritage and modern designs, we are witnessing an increased demand  for Plastisol and Polyester coated curved steel sheets.

SLE Cladding Ltd can supply 0.7mm (and 0.9mm in galv) curved corrugated  in a 10 x 3" corr and 13.5 x 3" corr.  With curved sheets it is standard practice to double side lap the sheets for a better seal, this reduces the effective coverwidth of a 10 x 3" corrugated sheet to 2ft 3" (685mm)

The tightest radius that sheets can be curved to is :- Prime Quality, radius 3ft. (914mm). Maximum length = 16ft  (4.88 m).  Superior Seconds Quality, radius 10ft (3.050m). Maximum length = 12 ft 6" (3.81m).

Required Measurements :Length from A to B and C to D, plus the length of sheets required. Maximum curving lengths are as per above.

Measuring. To enable SLE Cladding Ltd to  produce curved sheets to the required length & radius, we require accurate measurements as per above. Measuring the end of a building can be a dangerous occupation. A safer method if an undamaged curved sheet off the building is available, is to place it on level ground and take the measurement off the curved sheet.

  Re-roofing Curved Roof Dutch Barns.

On close examination of some older agricultural barns, owners may be shocked to find that their barn roof is supported by only a few light steel trusses, timber eaves beams and a light wooden purlin at "top dead centre". The roof will consist of narrow 8 x 3" corr. sheets (2ft coverwidth) x approx. 5ft long, taking 5 or more sheets to complete a curve. The roofs strength is achieved by double lapped sheets and joined together by two rows of closely spaced hot rivets around all edges.

The cost of replacing like with like in this day and age would be phenomenal, that is why we strongly recommend the fitting of 2 more wooden purlins at 10 and 2 o'clock and using only 3 no. sheets to complete a curve. Sheets should be laid working towards the prevailing wind. They should be double side-lapped and should also be seam stitched around all edges with Tek. seam stitchers for greater security against wind. We recommend that  this method of sheeting is discussed with your roofing contractor before placing an order for sheets.

Pig Arks

Above a corrugated galvanised sheet, curved for a standard pig ark. The curved sheet measures 8ft wide (at widest point) x 4ft high. Curved from a prime quality 10 x 3" corr galvanised sheet x 0.7mm thick and 12ft. 6" long. Arks can be produced to other sizes.
It is recommended that sheets are double side-lapped for strength, which reduces the coverwidth to 2 ft 3 ".  Arks can be any length, but 3 sheets giving a length of 7ft. is most popular. Pig Ark Sheets as per above are a Stock Item

 NOTES

Thickness.   * .55mm thick galv is close to the minimum of satisfactory thickness tolerance for curving, which can sometimes result in wavy edges to the sheets, thus we do not recommend its use for curving. For this reason "superior seconds quality materials are not curved in .55mm substrate.

** 0.9mm & 1.2mm are mainly used in architectural restorations. These sheets are exceptionally heavy to handle and are only available in galvanised steel. They can be poly coated in corporate colours on one or both sides, even with a different colour each side, but this is an expensive process. CLICK HERE to visit our page on Powder Coating.

Lengths. Maximum length of sheets that can be curved = 16 lin. ft. in prime quality and 12 ft 6". in superior seconds quality.

Radius. The tightest radius that sheets can be curved to is :- Prime Quality a 3 ft radius.  Superior Seconds Quality a 10 ft radius.
